Lots Road open space

New open space

Lots Road is a proposed new open space, not currently open to visitors.

We are planning a new green space on Lots Road with seating, planting and play space. The site will not be a conventional park but offer a new open space for residents in the area. The space will need to be flexible as part of it sits on top of the Thames Tideway Tunnel. This means it will need to be cleared at times so that the tunnel can be accessed to provide maintenance.

The new space will have:

  • planting, including seasonal plants beneficial for wildlife
  • seating
  • play and informal sports
  • drinking fountain
  • ornamental entrance gates on Lots Road
  • other options suitable for the space

The selected design

Our consultation with residents and organisations in the Chelsea Riverside ward concluded in April 2025. The chosen design was selected from residents' preferences and council officers' tender scores.

Design 1 received the highest overall score and the scheme's designer will work with the community on the proposed design for the new open space.

The design is indicative of what could happen in this space and is not the final design. The final design and layouts will also be subject to consultation with Thames Tideway and Thames Water. This may result in changes being made and/or some areas being restricted from use.

Further design workshops with residents and organisations will be held in June and July 2025, to create the final vision for the new green space, which we plan to deliver in 2026.

Full details of the consultation results can be found on our consultation page.

Other spaces in the area

Given the unique nature of this new space, we will also look at what could be added to local parks at Westfield Park and Cremorne Gardens to further enhance residents’ opportunities to enjoy their local area.

The River Wall and Thames Path

Before work to the new open space can begin, we need to carry out repairs to the river wall and pier. As part of this work we are also looking at options to extend the Thames Path.

Further updates and a full timetable of works will be added to this page as the project progresses.
