Park rules
On this page
Park rules, known as byelaws, are just for our parks. They exist in addition to normal UK law to help us protect the parks and their visitors. These byelaws are enforced by the Royal Borough’s Parks Police service.
Park byelaws
Byelaws are like normal UK laws: if you break them, you can be fined or prosecuted. Most of our byelaws involve respecting the parks. As a guide, the mains points are:
- no cycling in the parks, excluding Little Wormwood Scrubs. Cyclists must dismount and walk their bike through the park. Bicycles chained to park fences will be removed
- do not feed the wildlife
- events and professional photography and drones need permission. If in doubt, email [email protected]
- personal trainers should use the open spaces and outdoor gyms where provided. Park furniture or buildings should not be used for exercising and excessively loud music is not permitted
-
no tents or gazebos to be erected within the parks
Dogs
Dogs must be supervised by owners when off-lead and must not be allowed to cause a nuisance to others or run into flower beds. Dogs must be kept on leads in formal gardens and the woodland of Holland Park and Avondale Park. Dogs are not permitted in:
- Redcliffe Square Gardens,
- all park playgrounds
- Kyoto Garden of Holland Park
Dog fouling must be picked up or you may receive a fine. We encourage dog owners to use the dog toilets provided in some parks. Dog litter can be thrown into the litter bins provided.
Fires and barbecues
Open fires or barbecues are not permitted in any of our parks or open spaces. Open fires and barbecues:
- pose a fire risk
- damage valuable grassland
- affect other park visitors' enjoyment
If you have an open fire or a barbecue, we will take enforcement action.
