Local parks and open spaces

Lots Road open space

We’re planning a new green space on Lots Road, which will be open to visitors and local residents. The site won’t be a conventional park, as part of it sits on top of the Thames Tideway Tunnel, which will need clearing at times for tunnel maintenance.

The new space will have:

  • planting, including seasonal plants beneficial for wildlife
  • seating
  • play
  • informal sports – subject to Thames Water granting permission as part of phase 2
  • drinking fountain
  • ornamental entrance gates on Lots Road

Our selected design

First consultation

Our first consultation with residents and organisations in the Chelsea Riverside ward ended in April 2025. It led to a designer being selected to finalise a proposal.

Second consultation

We held a second consultation in June and July with residents. They helped to finalise the design by attending drop-in sessions.

The key themes from the second consultation were:

  • support for more greening and planting
  • additional seats and quiet areas
  • shade and support for informal sports

The sports area is subject to land use agreements with Thames Water and may form phase 2 of the project.

All these elements were added to the updated design.

Planning application

We’ve now put in a planning application for the new Lots Road Open Space. This is due to go to a Planning Committee in January.
