Celebrating Victory in Europe (VE) Day
Thursday 8 May 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the historic Victory in Europe (VE) Day. Families and communities will come together to celebrate 80 years of peace since the end of World War II in Europe; peace that so many millions paid the ultimate sacrifice to achieve.
From the 9am flag raising and VE DAY 80 Proclamation to cathedral bells ringing out at 6.30pm, the anniversary will be marked in many ways across the country.
Planning a celebration street party
Deadline for applications to hold a VE 80th Anniversary Street Party is Friday 11 April, 12 noon.
Even though Thursday 8 May is not a public holiday, communities, as well as care homes, children’s homes, hospitals and schools are encouraged to hold street and garden parties throughout the day, especially at lunchtime.
Our Events Team are here to help with all stages of your planning your street party. Follow our guidance on how to plan and organise a fun, successful and safe street party and complete our free application process to hold your celebration between Friday 2 and Sunday 11 May 2025.
