e-bike hire
Rental e-bike parking has been introduced in Kensington and Chelsea with over 200 marked bays and ‘virtual’ bays around the borough.
Encouraging e-bike rental
These bays give the borough one of the highest densities of rental e-bike parking spaces in London. The bays are designed to boost visibility in a positive way to encourage more people to take the rental e-bikes for short trips, rather than using their cars, cutting carbon emissions and improving air quality in the borough. Rental e-bike parking will also provide more cycle hire options for the north of the borough, which has fewer Santander bike hire locations than the south of the borough.
No-parking zone
Both Forest and Lime have signed agreements with the council to introduce a no-parking zone across the entire borough, except for the agreed parking places. Users will continue to be charged by the apps if they leave a bike anywhere outside the designated parking bays and repeat offenders will be subject to additional fines or bans.
The areas will be identified in the Forest and Lime apps so people can see where they can find a bike or park at the end of a trip.
Parking problems
Two suppliers operating e-bike hire in the borough. If problems are experienced with bikes parked or abandoned outside of a parking bay those bikes can be reported online. Reports will be sent direct to the suppliers and the borough will keep a record of where and when reports are made. Suppliers can also be contacted direct:
Forest

telephone: 020 8157 7491
Lime

Hiring an e-bike
You can rent an e-bike through the operator’s mobile phone apps. You will need to:
- download the app of your chosen operator
- complete the registration process
- find a bike
- scan the bike’s QR code or vehicle ID to unlock the bike and begin your journey
To end a trip, return the bike to a parking bay and follow the app. instructions to end the hire.
e-Bike parking
Journeys can only end in an approved parking bay. Geo-fencing technology will not allow e-bikes to be parked outside of a marked or virtual bay.
Most bays are marked on the ground, there are also some ‘virtual bays’ which are visible only in the suppliers’ apps; these are mostly around existing cycle parking provision.
In normal circumstances parking bays are always available for use by members of the public.
