Dear Lord Leighton
Will you allow me to say with what very great pleasure I have read of the distinguished honour which has been conferred upon you and also to express that sense of gratitude, which we must all feel towards you for having won for our profession so unique and honorable a distinction. I am but expressing a feeling which is universal and the news which has just reached us here in Cornwall has been hailed on all hands with delight as it must have been wherever groups of English Artists are to be found. I sincerely and heartily trust that you may have renewed health and vigour to long enjoy your well won honours.
