Residents' associations

What is a residents' association?

Tenant and residents’ associations play an important role in the borough and help to achieve real improvements in their local area and help foster social and community spirit. They actively help shape conversations about their local area and feedback the views of residents to help inform local decision making.

A residents’ association is a group of people from the same area who get together because of a shared interest in a local area. These associations might organise community events for local people or work to make changes in their area. Residents’ associations can play an important role in strengthening communities and bringing residents together.

Residents’ associations have been formed to represent residents from every type of housing.

Council tenants

Council housing residents’ associations and compacts are not only for social housing tenants but include leaseholders. Private residents’ associations include freehold homeowners, leaseholders and those in private rented accommodation.
