Alcohol-related Anti-Social Behaviour Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO)

The Order

Under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, it is an offence to:

  • consume alcohol in this area and act in way as to cause alarm, harassment or distress after being required to stop by an authorised officer.
  • fail to surrender alcohol (or any container believed to contain alcohol) when requested by an authorised officer.

Authorised officers include police officers, police community support officers, and council enforcement officers can enforce.

Penalty

Failure to comply may result in:

  • a Fixed Penalty Notice of up to £100, or
  • prosecution, with a maximum fine of up to £500.

The consultation received 103 responses. The consultation report is provided below and shows significant support (84 per cent) for the alcohol-related ASB across the whole borough.
