Resilience and Emergencies

Business Continuity

We have a duty to make sure we are prepared to respond to rapid increases in demand for our services during widespread disruptions and emergencies.

We have developed a resilience framework that sets out how the vital services that we provide will be maintained and how we will respond and recover from any disruption

The greatest test of our preparedness and resilience will be in how we respond as an organisation to disruptive events, and how well supported the people of Kensington and Chelsea are during these times.

Preparing your business

To prepare your business for emergencies you should undertake all neccessary precautions, including:

  1. Identify the potential risks to your business by completing business continuity self assessment.
  2. Planning for the likeliest risks.
  3. Document your emergency contacts.
  4. Ensure that your business insurance policy is up to date and all documents are stored in a safe place.
  5. Contact your local council and register for business networks

Make a plan

Our Borough is home to lots of different types of business. From large multi-nationals to people working from their own home. Small and medium businesses form a vital part of the UK and London economy.

More than 12 million people in the UK are employed by small and medium businesses, and they account for 99 percent of London's employers. Yet many may not have thought about how they would continue to stay in business in the event of an emergency.

We know that not all businesses are able to commit the same level of resource to developing business continuity arrangements. Big organisations may have an identified Business Continuity Manager, but smaller businesses can often find business continuity harder to implement.

To provide support to this important sector, The local authority panel and business sector representatives have worked together to develop the following resources, available for you to use for free.

Businesses can also help support their local communities to be resilient. We're working with London First to introduce Business District Resilience Officers to help coordinate locally-based planning and support.

Advantages of having a Business Continuity Plan

  • A good plan could prevent your business from collapsing
  • Undertaking the process can identify other business efficiencies
  • It can reduce your insurance
  • It may be a requirement if you want to bid for a tender
