How the council is funded
Council tax is just one source of the council's income. In previous years, before the impact of the Government fair funding review, for each £100 the Council received, only £22 comes from council tax.
Other income sources include a share of the business rates we collect, parking, rental income, and central Government funding, which is now set to reduce dramatically over the next few years.
Some of these additional sources of income come with restrictions for how they can be spent. For example, income from on-street parking and penalties is held separately and can only be spent
on a defined list of transport and environmental purposes.
This is one of the ways that we can invest in our high streets, public spaces and deliver our Amazing Spaces schemes.
