Local elections 2026
The borough’s local elections are on Thursday 7 May. Make sure you're registered to vote in time.
Register to vote
If you're not registered to vote, you will not be able to vote in the elections.
The deadline to register is Monday 20 April.
If you cannot vote in person
If you cannot vote at the polling station on polling day you can choose one of two options:
- arrange for a postal vote by 5pm on Tuesday 21 April or
- arrange for a proxy vote (someone to vote on your behalf) by 5pm on Tuesday 28 April
You can change or cancel your postal vote or proxy arrangements by 5pm on Tuesday 21 April

Voter ID when voting in person
You must now show photo ID when voting in person at a polling station.
Find out which photo ID you can use.
If you do not have suitable photo ID
You can apply for a voter authority certificate (VAC).
This is a free photo ID specifically used for voting.
The deadline to apply for a VAC is 5pm on Tuesday 28 April.

Contact the Electoral Services team for a paper application or help to complete your application.

- View the Statement of Persons Nominated (list of nominated candidates) for election as a Borough Councillor for each ward.
- View the names and addresses of the election agents for each candidate by ward.

- Nomination papers must be delivered to the Returning Officer, The Town Hall, Hornton Street, London, W8 7NX on any day after the date of this notice, on Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm (excluding bank holidays) but no later than 4pm on Thursday, 9 April 2026.
- Nomination papers may be obtained from the offices of the Returning Officer, The Town Hall, Hornton Street, London, W8 7NX, during the times stated above.
- If any election is contested the poll will take place on Thursday, 7 May 2026.
- Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 12 midnight on Monday 20 April 2026. Applications can be made online.
- Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes and amendments or cancellations of proxy votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at The Town Hall, Hornton Street, London, W8 7NX by 5pm on Tuesday, 21 April 2026.
- New applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at The Town Hall, Hornton Street, London, W8 7NX by 5pm on Tuesday, 28 April 2026.
- Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election on the grounds of physical incapacity or for work or service reasons must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at The Town Hall, Hornton Street, London, W8 7NX by 5 pm on Thursday, 7th May 2026. The physical incapacity must have occurred after 5pm on Tuesday 28 April 2026. To apply on the grounds of work/service, the person must have become aware that they cannot go to the polling station in person after 5pm on Tuesday, 28 April 2026.
