Local elections 2026
The borough’s local elections are on Thursday 7 May.
Register to vote
If you're not registered, you will not be able to vote in the elections.
The deadline to register in time for the local elections is Monday 20 April.
If you cannot vote in person
If you cannot vote at the polling station on polling day you can either:
- arrange for a postal vote or
- arrange for a proxy vote (someone to vote on your behalf)
Postal or proxy vote deadlines
The deadline to:
- apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday 21 April
- apply for a proxy is 5pm on Tuesday 28 April
- change or cancel a postal vote or proxy arrangements is 5pm on Tuesday 21 April

Voter ID for voting at elections
You must now show photo ID when voting in person at a polling station. Find out which photo identification you can use.
- If you do not have suitable photo ID, you will need to apply for a voter authority certificate (VAC). This is a free photo ID specifically used for voting.
- The deadline to apply for a VAC is 5pm on Tuesday 28 April
- If you cannot apply online, contact the Electoral Services team. They will send you a paper version of the relevant application or help you complete your application.
