Residents said there were no words to describe their appreciation when the Council's antisocial behaviour team served a closure order on a property where antisocial behaviour had made life a misery.

Neighbours at Elgin Mews reported frequent disturbances caused by people coming and going from the flat in November this year. They complained of loud music, shouting and arguing, from early evening until the early hours of the morning, and on one occasion, serious threats to a tenant.

The police uncovered significant drug use at the address, and an inspection of the property revealed that the windows had been painted black to prevent people from seeing inside.

Antisocial behaviour officers worked closely with the police and neighbourhood team (north) taking swift action to safeguard the tenant and build a case for court.

The Council presented the case in court on Wednesday 11 December resulting in a closure order preventing anyone from entering the property, being served the same day. The premises was fully secured to prevent further trespass.

Cllr Sof McVeigh, lead member for housing said: “This is another great result for our antisocial behaviour team. Our teams will deal with antisocial behaviour swiftly and thoroughly to ensure our neighbourhoods are safe and pleasant places to live.”
