Rent and service charge increases

Published: Wednesday 22 March 2023

Council tenants have recently received their yearly rent and service charge notification letters. Regrettably, this year there were increases to the basic rent and most service chargeable items. We’re sorry that this will be difficult news for many residents, and we don’t take the decision to increase charges lightly.

Increases to the rate of inflation and the cost of goods and fuel mean it’s now more expensive than ever to provide services to our residents. We also need to invest in homes, and we’ve committed to a programme to renew roofs, windows, pipework, wiring, lifts, lighting and heating systems across the homes we manage. To make sure we can carry out this vital work, and continue to provide services to residents, we have to pass on the increased costs.

For most of our residents this change will be an increase on last year’s charges, and we understand that many people will find this hard given the current challenging times. We’re here to help – take a look at some of the support available to you.
