For over a decade InTRANSIT provided established and emerging artists an opportunity to explore the realm of audience engagement. Originally an idea of a local resident, it was supported by the Royal Borough's arts service. In 2014 it transformed into a commissioning festival, creating new works and challenging participants to respond to and engage with the geography of Kensington and Chelsea. InTRANSIT enriched the cultural landscape of the Royal Borough and the city as a whole, reaching an annual audience of around 250,000.

Following the Grenfell Fire, which happened on the second day of the 2017 festival the council made a review of its arts provision and decided to discontinue is festival programme whilst maintaining its community arts provision.

The Portobello Pavilion, the festival hub, has been maintained and more information about this initiative can be found on the link at the top of the page.

The Festival team would like to thank the many residents, artists and organisations who came together each summer to create art in unexpected places over the last eleven years.
