Apply for a gambling licence
Before you apply
You must have a licence for premises providing gambling facilities. The six types of gambling licence are:
- casino premises
- betting track premises (such as racecourses)
- other betting premises (such as betting shops)
- bingo premises
- adult gaming centres
- family entertainment centres
You can only have one type of licence for each premises unless you have a track premises. You can have a different licence for each area of the track. Your licence can only authorise one gambling operation.
We can no longer issue new licences for casinos.
If we grant you a gambling licence, you must also get a licence from the Gambling Commission. Check the Gambling Commission website for more information.

How we decide if we can grant you a licence
To apply for a gambling licence, you must be:
- 18 years old or older if you're applying as an individual
- authorised to make an application on their behalf if you are applying for a company
- authorised to use the property you want to get a licence for
- hold (or have applied for) an operator's licence from the Gambling Commission for the activity

Apply by post
Post your completed application form and supporting documents to the Licensing Team, address details can be found on the contact Licensing webpage.
Include a cheque or postal order for the correct amount, made payable to ‘The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’.
You must also send a copy of your application to each of the responsible authorities.

If you have applied for a variation or a provisional statement
You must display a notice at the premises for 28 days after you made your application. You also need to publish a copy of the notice in a local newspaper within 10 days of the application. This must circulate within the Kensington and Chelsea area.
There is a consultation period of 28 days. We will contact you either during or after this time to let you know what the next steps are.

To appeal against a decision about a gambling licence or the conditions we have set, contact:
