Left of sheet: drapery study for the left sleeve of the male figure facing the viewer and inspecting a sword, to the right of the fresco 'The Arts of Industry as Applied to War' (1878-80, Victoria and Albert Museum). Part of the left hand, and part of the drapery covering the left side of the body are also indicated. Right of sheet: head and shoulders drapery study for the same male figure. The head and neck are also indicated. The foliage attached to the front of the headdress in the finished work is not indicated.
