Inscribed lower left "52" in pencil, encircled. Inscribed lower right "Early Design" in pencil. Inscribed lower right "G.53" in pencil, encircled.
This drawing is similar in composition to an outline drawing at Leighton House Museum which has been described as a drawing of a "monk dividing two enemies". (reference number LHO/D/0969).
To the left of the composition a full-length standing male figure dressed like a monk. To the right is a second standing male figure with clenched fists.
