Model Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy for School Settings
Please find below an example single central record you may adapt as necessary.
Under s175 / 157 of the 2002 Education Act, all schools, including maintained, academies, independent or any who are registered with the Department for Education must be able to demonstrate they are are fulfilling their statutory safeguarding responsibilities (In essence, this directly links to the requirements within Keeping Children Safe in Education - KCSiE 2024). One way to ensure this is to complete an annual S175 / S157 audit.
The audit should be completed by the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), or in their absence the Deputy DSL, and the involvement of the Safeguarding Governor. This annual audit of safeguarding across the setting, should help schools to identify any areas that the setting may decide to develop further to be included in wider school development or improvement plans.
The DSL should report the completion of the audit, and any areas for development to their governing board.
If you have any questions about the audit tool, contact Elaine Campbell, Safeguarding Lead for Schools and Education at [email protected]
