Adult learners in Kensington and Chelsea are benefitting from excellent coaching and strong career support, according to Ofsted inspectors, as the Council’s adult learning service secures its third “Good” rating in a row.
Inspectors praised the responsive curriculums which have been shaped by and for the community, especially areas impacted by Grenfell. The service works in partnership with local organisations to ensure accessible training opportunities for residents.
The range of courses help learners build confidence, develop resilience, and improve employment prospects. Many go on to secure jobs, advance their careers, or pursue further study.
Key strengths highlighted in the inspection report:
- A safe, positive, and purposeful learning environment where learners enjoy their studies and build friendships.
- High-quality teaching that enables learners to quickly gain confidence and acquire new knowledge.
- A curriculum shaped by community needs, including dedicated courses in areas impacted by the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
- Strong partnerships with local organisations to deliver accessible training close to residents' homes
Cllr Kim Taylor-Smith, Deputy Leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council and Lead Member for Employment, Culture and Economy, said:
“I am particularly proud that Ofsted has acknowledged our adult learning team’s efforts in supporting the community after the Grenfell tragedy. They have worked closely with residents to develop accessible training and accredited courses that address both local and national skills shortages, particularly in the care and early years sectors.”
Learner success stories
Many learners feel more confident and resilient thanks to the available courses, using their new skills to progress in employment or further study. Local resident Aisha Kachalla recently completed an employment skills course through one of the Council’s providers, Learning and Skills Solutions:
"I was struggling to find work, but the training and support I received helped me build my CV, improve my interview skills, and secure a job. The staff really care, and it’s made a huge difference to my confidence."
Since the previous Ofsted inspection in 2018, the Council has addressed areas for improvement and successfully managed changes that have led to better attendance rates.
