England kick off their World Cup 2026 campaign against Croatia later today – and whether you’re backing the Three Lions or another nation, why not enjoy extra time in Kensington and Chelsea?
There’s something for everyone before or after the big match, with world-famous museums, beautiful parks and Amazing Spaces, al fresco dining and welcoming pubs all within easy reach.
From a stroll through South Kensington and Exhibition Road, to food and shopping on the King’s Road, riverside views in Chelsea or the colour and character of Portobello Road and Ladbroke Grove, there are plenty of reasons to enjoy the big match in the borough.
Cllr Johnny Thalassites, lead member for resident services, planning, and enforcement, said:
“I can’t say whether this will be the year that football finally comes home, but I do know that Kensington and Chelsea is the ideal location for before, during and after the big match.
“Whether you’re working through the pre-match nerves with a walk through one of our parks or meeting friends for food after the final whistle, there’s so much to experience right across our borough.
“Whichever nation you’re supporting and whatever happens on the pitch this World Cup, come and spend extra time in Kensington and Chelsea.”
Information about extended opening hours
The Government has made an order under the Licensing Act 2003 which extends licensing hours for licenced premises during specific FIFA Men’s World Cup 2026 matches.
The extension applies if England or Scotland are playing in a qualifying knock-out match and only to premises that already hold a premises licence or club premises certificate permitting the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises until at least 11pm on the day of the match.
