Today we launched our Fairer Action Plan, which details the Council’s strategy to tackle inequality, celebrate diversity, and promote inclusion across the borough.
Developed through extensive engagement with residents, community organisations and partners as well as an analysis of data about the borough and our communities, the Fairer Action Plan focuses on five key aims, which were agreed with by over 80 per cent of those we spoke to.
-
Making services more accessible
-
Taking action based on listening to residents
-
Improving communication in an accessible way
-
Tackling discrimination and celebrating diversity
-
Building a diverse and engaged workforce
The plan outlines 18 specific actions to tackle the causes of inequality and deprivation, focusing on areas such as health inequalities, employment, and education — areas where the Council can make the biggest difference.
Elizabeth Campbell, leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council, said:
“This is a borough full of opportunity, but we know not everyone has an equal chance to thrive. The Fairer Action Plan is our promise to do better — to listen, learn, and act with our residents, to break down barriers and build a fairer, more inclusive community. It’s about creating a borough where no one is left behind, where support is accessible to everyone, and where diversity is celebrated as a strength. I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this plan — your voices are at the heart of it. Now we must turn these words into action.”
The Fairer Action Plan builds on the Council’s response to the Grenfell tragedy and recognises the need for change to rebuild trust and create a lasting legacy of fairness, respect, and inclusion.
The Council has already begun work to create a fairer borough, including:
-
Working with Public Health colleagues to address health inequalities through a range of initiatives in our local areas to help people manage their health and wellbeing better.
-
Providing direct cash payments to residents to support with the rising cost of living.
-
Making it easier for residents to use online services, including support to build confidence and skills, and access devices and connectivity through the work of the Digital Inclusion Team.
We now want to go further by taking targeted action on inequality, strengthening the diversity of resident voices, celebrating our communities and doing better as an organisation to understand our communities in order to work with them more effectively.
We will publish annual updates to track progress on the plan’s commitments, ensuring transparency and accountability to residents. The first update will go to the Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee in October 2025.
