Councillor Gerard Hargreaves has been re-elected as Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea.

Cllr Sof McVeigh has also been appointed to serve as Deputy Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea for a second term.

Cllr Hargreaves was elected for his first Mayoral term in May 2020 and has raised over £17,000 for his chosen charity Glass Door so far through sponsoring the Mayor’s team for the Glass Door Sleep Out in October and attending the Community Carol Concert in December. The community has supported the charity partnering with churches and community centres to provide support and shelter to people experiencing homelessness. Cllr Hargreaves will continue his work with Glass Door in his second term.

He has also been visiting local business as they reopen; meeting people and organisations who have supported residents throughout the pandemic, including foodbanks, schools and Council staff; hosting an online Mayor’s Awards Ceremony; and marking national events such as Remembrance Sunday.

Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea, Cllr Gerard Hargreaves said:

“It’s an honour to be elected as Mayor for a second term. As we emerge from the lockdown, the Deputy Mayor and I look forward to being able to get out and about much more to say thank you to residents and businesses who have worked so hard throughout the pandemic and to support the borough’s recovery.

“Glass Door will be my charity again this year, everyone at the charity has been an amazing support to people experiencing homelessness during the pandemic and I will be supporting them to meet the new challenges that they face in the year ahead.”

Glass Door CEO Lucy Abraham said:

“The support from the Mayor comes at a crucial time. We are continuing to adapt to the changing needs of our guests during a pandemic, and this support is needed now more than ever. Councillor Gerard Hargreaves’ fantastic community connections and spirit of generosity have added real benefit, as seen through the brilliant funds and awareness raised. We are honoured to be nominated as Charity of the Year for the Mayor’s second term and look forward to a continued fruitful relationship.”
