Major Earl's Court development gets green light from planning committee

Published: Tuesday 17 December 2025

Earl's Court is set to get a new lease of life after the Council's planning committee has given the go ahead to a major new development on the site of the former Earl's Court exhibition centre.

After several hours of debate, councillors resolved to approve planning permission for the application, put forward by the Earl's Court Development Company.

Following the committee's decision, the application is referred to the Mayor of London. This is standard procedure with a major application of this size. The Mayor of London will now decide whether to agree with the Council's decision or call the application in for his own consideration.

The plans include outline proposals for up to a total of 1,400 homes, 95,000sqm of office floorspace, and other uses including new cultural venues and green spaces.

There will be 310 residential units, a nursery and food and beverage units in the first phase.

Cllr Elizabeth Campbell, Leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council, said:

"Earls Court is a welcoming, vibrant community with a rich cultural past. Once the home of the Brit Awards and events at London 2012 Olympics, we're so excited about what the future now holds: not only a new cultural centre but crucially a major neighbourhood providing more than 1,400 homes which are so desperately needed in our borough and across London."

This application is one of two considered by the committee on Tuesday 16 December. They also considered Lots Road South. Find out more.

Cllr James Husband, Chairman of the Planning Committee, said:

"I am grateful to planning officers for finding a way to bring these very important applications at Earl's Court and Lots Road South to the planning committee, when the Council is still very much in recovery after a major cyber attack. The committee gave detailed consideration to both applications. Overall on both schemes we agreed that the public benefits outweighed the harms. Taken together they provide more than 1,650 homes for our borough – a very significant number in Kensington and Chelsea."

All documents are available on our Planning Portal. The committee reports are on section six of each application.
