Following concerns raised by residents, Kensington and Chelsea Council has invested £50,000 in new CCTV cameras for Golborne ward.

Man installing a new CCTV camera

Eight high-tech cameras, boasting low-light capabilities and advanced features like pan, tilt, and zoom, have been installed in areas including Southern Row and Kensal Road. These cameras operate 24/7, transmitting live footage to the Council's control room. They are also directly linked to police radios for response. This builds upon the Council's new plan of action to be a greener, safer and fairer borough.

Over the past five years, over £450,000 has been allocated to upgrading and expanding the borough's CCTV network.

Cllr Sarah Addenbrooke, lead member for community safety, said:

"Our residents expressed concerns about anti-social behaviour in North Kensington – we listened and we have taken action.

“We promised just last month to strengthen our CCTV network and we are already keeping that promise. These new cameras are designed to deter crime and help catch criminals, strengthening the Council's modern and effective CCTV network, as outlined in our Council Plan.

“By working closely with the police and our communities, we strive to make Kensington and Chelsea one of the safest boroughs in London."

Golborne ward resident, Wilson Leon Brathwaite said:

“I was pleased to hear that the cameras are now up and running and I look forward to seeing what impact they have in the short, medium and long term. I believe that this can only be a positive attempt to get on top of anti-social behaviour.”
