We are aware of a leaflet circulating in the community about products being used at Silchester Arches new homes scheme which is misleading. We are concerned that this is likely to create anxiety in the community and are seeking to reassure local residents.
At all stages of this Silchester Arches build, industry best practices have been adhered to in terms of the materials used by our contractor Buxton. Our instructions to all contractors, including Buxton, are to always use the safest products available.
As the industry evolves and new products become available, we ask contractors to upgrade to materials with the maximum safety ratings. This was the case at Silchester Arches where we have instructed that one non-combustible product should be replaced with another non-combustible product that has come on the market since the project specification was originally agreed.
The building is currently under construction and there are no residents living there. The building is not due to be completed and occupied until next year.
The Council works to the highest safety standards and can categorically confirm that no products used in the Grenfell Tower refurbishment have been used in the Silchester Arches development.
