Voting in action

The voting process saw a strong response from the local community, with 1,078 residents casting a total of 10,864 eligible votes. This level of participation highlights the community’s commitment to shaping initiatives which help contribute to their recovery.

The final decision to award the funding will be made at the leadership team meeting on Wednesday 23 April.

Cllr Sarah Addenbrooke, lead member for communities, said:

“I want to thank the North Kensington Residents’ Panel for their continued dedication in shaping the Grenfell Projects Fund and all of the residents who participated in the public vote. The fund is a great example of how residents are leading recovery efforts and making decisions that benefit the community. The range of projects supported this year will make a real difference, from sports and arts initiatives to support networks for vulnerable residents.

“As we prepare to launch the consultation to help refresh our Charter for Public Participation, the GPF is a shining example of how communities can have a direct say in shaping their local area.”

How was the Grenfell Projects Fund developed?

GPF was developed in collaboration with the North Kensington Residents’ Panel, with residents leading decision-making every step of the way. This approach combined with the public vote is a strong example of how the local community is influencing decisions that directly impact them. It also comes ahead of the Council’s upcoming consultation on refreshing our Charter for Public Participation, launching on Monday, which aims to further embed resident voices in decision-making.

GPF has supported nearly 100 community-led initiatives since its launch in 2019, funding projects that create meaningful change in North Kensington. The latest round of successful applicants will begin delivering their projects from between May and October this year, continuing the vital work of strengthening and enriching the local community.

There is a programme of support being developed for unsuccessful applicants to help organisations with capacity building and planning their next steps.
