Grenfell Projects Fund

Grenfell Projects Fund 2024/25

The Grenfell Projects Fund, designed together with the North Kensington Residents’ Panel, offers grants to support North Kensington’s community-led recovery.

Funding allocation

A total of £600k in funding has been awarded to 15 projects over two years, reflecting the themes of bringing the North Kensington community together, supporting cultural enrichment, and caring for the most vulnerable.

Public vote

As part of the Grenfell Recovery Strategy, North Kensington residents voted for those shortlisted community projects that matter most to you. The public vote ran from Monday 3 February to Sunday 16 February 2025.

The voting process saw a strong response from the local community, with 1,078 residents casting a total of 10,864 eligible votes. This level of participation highlights the community’s commitment to shaping initiatives which help contribute to their recovery.

How the vote was run

Residents were able to review the shortlisted projects on the online voting platform or visit local council buildings and libraries to see printouts of the shortlisted projects, before choosing their favourites. Help and support was available at the voting stations at:

  • The Westway Trust
  • Bay 20
  • The Venture Centre
  • The Dalgarno Trust

The North Kensington residents vote helped to prioritise funding and support for the projects that will benefit the community the most.

Project submissions

In August 2024, we asked North Kensington community organisers to submit ideas for projects that would help support the community-led recovery. Applications closed in October 2024.

Council officers checked that each application met the eligibility criteria and standard compliance. The project team made up of the Residents' Panel and officers, assessed all eligible applications based on:

  • merit of the application
  • response to themes and priorities

The Residents' Panel created a shortlist of projects for the North Kensington residents to vote on.

Allocating the funds

Projects have been funded in order of most votes to least, with each receiving their full requested amount until the £600,000 fund has run out. This approach aims to make the process of allocating funding transparent and ensure that successful projects get the full funding they requested.

The final decision to award the funding will be made at the Leadership team meeting on Wednesday 23 April 2025.

Unsuccessful applicants

A huge thank you goes to all the community organisers who applied to this round of the Grenfell Projects Fund. We were overwhelmed by the number of applicants and the creativity, time and effort put into each application. The applications we received have requested a total of £3million in funds. Ahead of the public vote, the project team of Residents' Panel members and officers have reviewed all applications against:

  • the selection criteria
  • how well the themes are met
  • how much impact they will have with in the community

For the applicants who went through to the public vote, who has received the fund was informed directly by the public vote and who the North Kensington residents voted for.

We understand for lots of applicants, the outcome of this selection will be disappointing. The team are working to find more ways to support unsuccessful applicants to decide what they can do next. The team have provided feedback by email and will be able to offer more face-to-face support after the public vote.

If you have applied in this round, we will be in touch to share more about a programme of support for unsuccessful applicants to help organisations with capacity building and planning their next steps.

North Kensington Residents’ Panel

The North Kensington Residents’ Panel is made up of residents who live across the north seven wards. The panel’s purpose is to reflect North Kensington and Grenfell-affected community’s needs. Working in partnership with officers and the wider community, they design and embed community-centred approaches to the Grenfell Projects Fund.

Previous Grenfell Projects Funds

Previous rounds of the Grenfell Projects Fund allocated around £2million which has benefitted almost 100 projects. The North Kensington community and residents' panels have been involved in making decisions about the successful projects.
