Wornington Green SPD

The Kensington Housing Trust is considering the redevelopment of the Wornington Green Estate for a variety of reasons, including the difficulty of achieving decent homes within the estate.

In response to this potential redevelopment, the Council has prepared a Planning Brief for the Estate. This Brief has been prepared as a Supplementary Planning Document (also known as the SPD), which will be used as a material consideration in determining planning applications within the Estate. The Council has consulted on two previous drafts of the SPD. The last consultations were in June and July 2009.

The SPD sets out the Council’s requirements for the redevelopment of the Wornington Green Estate, detailing the redevelopment priorities and measures to ensure resident's concerns about the redevelopment are addressed.

To safeguard Athlone Gardens and the Venture Centre the planning brief (or SPD) insists on:

  • the return of a park at least the same size as the existing Athlone Gardens once work is complete
  • much improved park facilities, the form of which will be determined through consultation with users
  • the replacement of the Venture Centre, the new centre to be at least as large as the current facility
  • the replacement of the lock-ups on Munro Mews, the new lock ups to be designed in consultation with the market traders who use them

The SPD was adopted by the Council on 9 November 2009. The SPD, together with all other supporting documents, are available to download below:
