Community Housing Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)

RBKC Community Housing Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)

The Council’s Leadership Team adopted the RBKC Community Housing SPD on 03 June 2020. See details on the Meetings page.

The Council published a draft of the Affordable Housing SPD for a six-week consultation, from 11 February to 24 March 2020. In addition, a poll on a new term for affordable housing was undertaken using the digital platform built-id. This enabled publicity of the consultation to a very wide audience using adverts on social media. The term most favoured in the poll is now reflected in the title of the SPD - RBKC Community Housing and signifies genuinely affordable housing. The consultation document can be found on the Planning Policy consultations page.

A key objective of the SPD is to increase the provision of social rented homes based on the evidence of need. In this way the SPD will help the Council secure the truly affordable homes so essential in reducing inequality and in creating the socially inclusive communities which will allow all of our residents to fully realise their potential.

The creation of mixed and balanced communities is central to the vision of the Local Plan and supported by the Council Plan, the Council’s Housing Strategy and the emerging New London Plan.

The SPD also provides guidance on the various strands of our affordable housing policies as set out in the Local Plan 2019.
