Family event draws a healthy crowd

Hundreds of families have fun with Go Golborne!

Hundreds of children and families had lots of healthy fun at a community event organised as part of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s Go Golborne healthy lifestyle initiative. The event took place on Saturday 11 November at the Venture Community Association and was organised in partnership with the Golborne Community Champions, local volunteers who work to improve the health of local residents.

A wide variety of local organisations ran activities to promote different health messages and make families aware of services on offer to help them eat well and keep active. Children played lots of games including one to guess the amount of sugar in popular food and drink products and one to name exotic fruit and vegetables. Alongside the usual face painting fun, children also took part in lots of health themed arts and crafts activities – creating healthy snack boxes to take home, potting garlic bulbs, making decorations for bikes and scooters and much more!

Parents were able to pick up lifestyle advice from local Health Trainers and Mytime Active nutritionists whilst their children made use of the Centre’s famous adventure playground. Families were treated to performances of African dancing and from local musician Alexander D Great, who has created several catchy health themed songs for children.

Reflecting on the event Ellie Lewis, Go Golborne co-ordinator said ‘It was brilliant to see so many children and parents enjoying the day – the atmosphere was really buzzing. It was a great opportunity to promote local health services and messages in a fun way and bring the community together. The feedback from children and parents is that they want more events like this and we will certainly try to make it happen!
