Essential information for Teachers

Essential Preliminary Visit

  • We strongly recommend that teachers take the opportunity to visit the Ecology Centre and familiarise themselves with the location and resources to ensure that pupils get the most from their trip.
  • Each teacher/leader is therefore invited to attend a preliminary planning meeting to discuss the focus of study. This is an opportunity to view the wildlife area and review the facilities, equipment, activities and health and safety issues in advance of your visit.
  • A pre-visit is essential for first-time visitors and teachers who will be leading the session themselves.

Health and Safety

  • All our sessions have been risk assessed.
  • Upon confirming a visit, teachers will be sent a copy of our Educational Visit Health and Safety Procedure.
  • This outlines responsibilities of the ecology staff and the visiting groups and contains a risk assessment.
  •  Visiting schools should also complete their own risk assessments.
