Households using individual bins (kerbside collections)
After you have signed-up to receive food waste collections we'll send you:
- a small, black, 7 litre kitchen food waste bin
- a larger, black, 23 litre outdoor food waste bin
- 12 months' supply of food waste liners
- a detailed service information leaflet
If you live in a shared block, we may only provide one outdoor bin per three households, depending on the storage space available.
How to use the food waste bin
- Line your kitchen bin with a food waste liner.
- Fill the bin with food waste.
- Put your securely tied food waste liners inside your outdoor food bin and lock it by placing the handle up or forward.
What can and can’t go in your food waste bin
You can recycle a wide range of cooked and uncooked food waste.
Items you can place in your food waste bin
- Raw and cooked food (including vegetables, meat, fish and bones)
- Fruit and peelings
- Dairy including cheese and eggs
- Bread and pastries
- Tea bags and coffee grounds
- Eggshells
- Rice, pasta and beans
Please do not put these in your food waste bin
- Packaging of any kind
- Plastic bags
- Garden Waste
- Liquids (such as Milk)
- Oil or liquid fat
- Any material that is not food waste
Where to place your food waste bin on your collection day
Please remember to place your bin at the front of your property ready for collection by 7am on your collection day. The bin should be at kerbside level (not in a basement), and not on the pavement or public highway. The bin needs to be easily seen by the collection crew.
Ordering food waste bin liners or a replacement outdoor bin
Food waste bin liners
If you run out of food waste bin liners, you can buy your own from supermarkets or other retailers.
Our preference is that you use compostable bin liners. Please do not use black bags as the crews will not collect it because they need to be able to check that only food waste is inside.
You can also order food waste bin liners from the Council.
Outdoor food waste bin
If your outdoor bin has been lost, broken or you just need an extra one you can request this online.
Use the ‘Request a waste collection or order recycling bags’ form to place an order.
Report a missed food waste collection
If we haven't collected your food waste, please let us know by completing the Report a waste collection problem form and we will arrange for it to be collected within 24 hours.
