Households using communal bins

We will provide new households offered the service with:

  • a small, black, 7 litre kitchen bin
  • 12 months' supply of food waste bin liners
  • a detailed service information leaflet
  • a communal food waste bin

How to use the food bin

  1. Line your food bin with the bin liners provided.
  2. Fill the bin with food waste.
  3. When full, tie a knot and take it to one of the food waste bins outside. 

What can and can’t go in your food waste bin 

You can recycle a wide range of cooked and uncooked food waste.

Items you can place in your food bin

  • Raw and cooked food (including vegetables, meat, fish and bones)
  • Fruit and peelings
  • Dairy including cheese and eggs
  • Bread and pastries
  • Tea bags and coffee grounds
  • Eggshells
  • Rice, pasta and beans

Please do not put these in your food bin

  • Packaging of any kind
  • Plastic bags
  • Garden Waste
  • Liquids (such as Milk)
  • Oil or liquid fat
  • Any material that is not food waste

Run out of food waste liners?

If you run out of bin liners, you can buy your own from supermarkets or other retailers. Please do not use black bags as the crews will not collect it because they need to be able to check that only food waste is inside.

Alternatively, check with your landlord or property management company, as we may have provided them with additional liners to keep on site.

Report a missed food waste collection

If we haven't collected your food waste, please let us know by completing the Report a waste collection problem form and we will arrange for it to be collected within 24 hours.
