Join your local library

Anyone can join the library for free. You can join online or come into the library - all you need is proof of your permanent address in the UK.

In person

You will need to fill in the membership form and provide official proof of your name and address, such as a:

  • driving licence
  • credit card statement
  • utility bill
  • bank statement

If you are unsure about what documents to bring ask one of our members of staff or call us on 020 7361 3010 (your call may be recorded for training and monitoring purposes).

Please note: All applications for membership of children and young people under 18 require the signature of a parent or guardian.

Online

You can also join online.

You will need to provide official proof of your name and address at a library branch. We will change your temporary card to permanent and you can start borrowing items.

How much does it cost?

It costs nothing to join and borrowing books is free.

There is a charge for:

  • borrowing music or audiobook CDs and DVDs
  • language courses

You are entitled to concessions if you:

  • receive benefits (excluding Child Benefit)
  • consider yourself to be disabled
  • over the age of 59

Update your details

If you change address or any other details, let us know as soon as possible on libraries@rbkc.gov.uk.
