Parking fines to increase from 7 April 2025

Published: Monday 17 March 2025

An increase of £30 in penalty charges notices (PCNs) will take effect in all London boroughs, including Kensington and Chelsea, from 7 April 2025.

London Councils’ Transport and Environment Committee is responsible for setting parking, bus lane and moving traffic penalty charges on roads across London boroughs, plus additional parking fees.  The committee made the decision to increase charges following public consultation.

How will this affect parking fines in Kensington and Chelsea?

Fee until 6 April 2025 Fee from 7 April 2025
More serious parking and moving traffic contraventions £130 £160
Less serious parking  contraventions £80 £110
Release fee from wheel clamp £70 £100
Release fee from car pound £200 £280
Daily storage fee £40 per day £55 per day
Disposal fee £70 £100

More serious offences are things like stopping on a red route, causing an obstruction and parking in disabled bays without displaying a valid badge. Less serious offences are things like parking for longer than the time that you have paid for and parking outside the perimeters of a bay. You can see a full list of parking contraventions and their category on our parking pages.

The Council applies a 50 per cent reduction to parking and moving traffic contraventions, if they are paid within 14 days.

How are traffic and parking fees spent?

Any money raised by PCNs cannot go into councils' general funds for any purpose. Instead, local authorities have a legal duty to ensure any net revenue raised by PCNs is reinvested in traffic and transport schemes.

In Kensington and Chelsea, money from fees supports keeping streets clean and clear, new streetscape schemes and improved public realm. Find out more about some of these schemes in our Amazing Spaces web hub.
