Auction premises registration

Auction premises registration

If you want to sell goods by competitive bidding, you may need to register your auction premises under the Greater London Council (General Powers) Act 1984, Part VI (1984 Act).

How to register

The registration fee is £293.

To register you need to:

  • provide your full name and address
  • submit a plan of the premises with your application
  • have not previously run a business which is detrimental to the interests of consumers
  • get relevant planning consent for the premises (if needed) before you apply

We only accept applications by post. Contact our Trading Standards Team to order an application form:

How we evaluate applications

Our Trading Standards department will take into account the suitability of the person, premises or stall.

We aim to reach our decision within 28 days.

If your application is unopposed, tacit consent will apply. This means you will be able to act as though your application is granted if you haven't heard from the Trading Standards team within 28 days.

Failed applications

If we refuse your application contact our Trading Standards Team.

You will also have the opportunity to appear before the Licensing Authority at a public hearing. The hearing will take place in front of the Licensing Sub-Committee and you will have the opportunity to address the reasons for refusal.

If you want to appeal against a decision following a Licensing Sub-Committee hearing you can appeal to the Trading Standards department within 21 days of the decision notice.
