Sloane Street

About Sloane Street

Sloane Street is one of London’s most famous shopping streets, a kilometre long boulevard connecting Knightsbridge to Sloane Square. The street has long-since been a draw for luxury shopping and was originally commissioned by the first Earl of Cadogan in the 18th century. This scheme is the most significant streetscape improvement in almost 250 years.

The transformation is a £46 million investment, funded by Cadogan and delivered in partnership with the Council.

Changes on the street have included:

  • Wider pavements made from UK sourced Yorkstone
  • Enhanced lighting
  • Planting and greening including more than 100 new trees
  • Improved pedestrian crossings
  • New street furniture.

The masterplan was overseen by John McAslan + Partners after an international design competition. The greening scheme on the street was led by award-winning landscaper Andy Sturgeon, who has won accolades including nine gold medals at Chelsea Flower Show.  The landscaping is climate proof, using drought resistant plant and tree species which offer year-round beauty with spring flowers, summer berries, autumn colour and sculptural branch structure in winter.

Where we are now

The transformation of Sloane Street is now complete, with the street reopening to two-way traffic on time and on schedule in December 2024. An official opening event took place in February 2025.

How we got here

In 2016 and 2017, over 1,100 people took part in a consultation on the Sloane Street proposals, which were approved through the Council’s Key Decision process in April 2019. Over 75 per cent of respondents said they supported the proposals. All responses were considered, and where possible the feedback has been incorporated into the final design for the street.

Now Sloane Street is open, look out for a series of events and cultural partnerships that will bring the newly transformed Street to life throughout 2025 and beyond.
