The schoolroom at Campden House, coloured lithograph by Charles Richardson

Campden House was built for Sir Baptist Hicks c.1610 in the Jacobean style. This picture gives some idea of the lavish interior with its rich decoration. Mrs Theed, the headmistress can be seen sitting with her pupils and teachers. Many of the large houses were used either as schools or private asylums.
