The Deputy Mayor

The Deputy Mayor's Biography

Cllr Dori Schmetterling was first elected to the Council in 2018, representing Pembridge ward, where he has lived since 1984.

Since his election, he has been a member of the Planning Applications (2018 to 2022) and Licensing Committees, and was Vice-Chair of the latter for a time. In scrutiny he was on the housing committees from May 2018 to May 2022, and currently serves on the Family Services Select Committee.

He is one of the Council’s nominated trustees on the board of Citizens Advice Kensington and Chelsea.
In his other life after graduating from Imperial College, Dori spent most of his time in international business development roles for companies manufacturing technical materials and equipment for the chemical and pharmaceuticals industries, travelling extensively in the region between the Nile and the Ganges and in Europe.

The Role of the Deputy Mayor

Every year, upon their election at the Annual Meeting of the Council, the Mayor may appoint a Deputy Mayor. The Deputy Mayor may, if for any reason the Mayor is unable to act, discharge all the functions which the Mayor might discharge.

The Deputy Mayor supports the Mayor as First Citizen of the Borough. On occasions where the Mayor cannot attend an event to which she is invited, the Deputy Mayor may be asked to attend in her place.

While the Deputy Mayor may take seats on committees and continue to carry out their ward councillor duties, when they are attending an event as Deputy Mayor they do so in an entirely non-political capacity.
