Role of the deputy mayor
Every year, upon their election at the Annual Meeting of the council, the mayor may appoint a deputy mayor. The deputy mayor may, if for any reason the mayor is unable to act, discharge all the functions which the mayor might discharge.
The deputy mayor's role is to deputise for the mayor at their request, by attending engagements at which the mayor feels they should be represented. If for any reason the Mayor is absent from a Full Council meeting, the Deputy Mayor shall chair.
While the deputy mayor may take seats on committees and continue to carry out their ward councillor duties, when they are attending an event as deputy mayor they do so in an entirely non-political capacity.
