Moving into Kensington and Chelsea

You can tell us about your move at any time using the online form.

You'll need to provide:

  • your current and previous address
  • your new address
  • the date you moved

What happens next

We aim to issue you with your bill within 10 days of the start of your account or notification (if you are moving in at a future date).

Once you receive your bill you can create a MyRBKC account to manage future changes and payments.

Moving within or out of the borough

If you do not have a MyRBKC account you can use our online form to tell us about your move. 

You'll need to provide:

  • your Council Tax account reference number
  • your current or previous address
  • your new address 
  • the date you moved

What happens next

We aim send your updated bill within 10 days of the start of your account or notification (if you are moving in at a future date). 

The revised bill will show:

  • anything you still owe for your old address
  • the amount due for your new address

If you have overpaid for your old address, we'll usually apply this as credit to reduce what you owe at your new address.

Your updated bill will tell you what your new instalments will be.

Changes to your household

Tell us if your circumstances change. This includes:

  • someone in the property has died
  • applying for or cancelling a Single Person Discount
  • a change in income

If you have changed your name

Contact us to tell us about your name change and provide evidence:

Include the following in your email:

  • your Council Tax account reference
  • your name before the change
  • your address
  • your new name
  • reason for the change, for example deed poll, marriage, divorce or other
  • proof of your name change (such as a marriage certificate, decree of absolute or deed poll notification)

We'll update your account within 14 working days of receiving your request and send an updated bill.

Frequently asked questions

If I register for Council Tax, am I automatically eligible for a resident’s parking permit?

No. You will need to apply separately for a resident’s parking permit. Find information on residents parking permit.

If I register for Council Tax, am I automatically added to the Electoral Register?

No. The Council Tax register is separate from the Electoral Register. If you wish to register to vote, you will need to complete a separate form. Visit Registering to vote.

If I am a tenant, do I need to tell you about my move? 

Yes. There is no guarantee that your landlord will notify us that you have moved in or out of a property.  To ensure that your bill is correct you should complete the relevant online form.   

How do I get a copy of my bill?

You can get a bill straight away using MyRBKC or if you call us we can send one to you however this takes a minimum of 24 hours.
