The Council's Ecologist has advised as follows: Substrate depth Substrate depth for the green roofs is listed as 80-150mm (150mm for plug plant areas). Typically, wildflowers require a substrate depth of 100-150mm, so it would be beneficial to increase the substrate depth to at least 100mm across all the green roof areas. Maintenance Intensive green roofs and plug plants require careful aftercare during establishment and ongoing maintenance, including irrigation. As the roofs are being seeded rather than laid as wildflower matting, re-seeding may be required in subsequent years. Additional biodiversity enhancements 6 x swift bricks (Ibstock Eco home for swifts) built into walls of each building: These should be installed under the eaves or on walls facing north, north-east or north-west, out of direct sunlight (some of their locations on drawing no. WTG2B-IAL-ZZ-ZZ-GA-L-300008-P03 are appropriate). The chances of the new nest boxes being used are greatly increased if Swift calls are played at or near to the nest boxes from early May - end of July, between 0600 and 0900 and then again between 1800 and 2100. 2 x build-in WoodStone House double sparrow nest box: These should be installed in shade, with an aspect between north and east (their locations on drawing no. WTG2B-IAL-ZZ-ZZ-GA-L-300008-P03 are appropriate). 5 x build-in WoodStone bat box: These should be installed on sheltered, sunny aspects (south, south-east or south-west) where they will be warmed by the sun for part of the day. Their locations on drawing no. WTG2B-IAL-ZZ-ZZ-GA-L-300008-P03 show they would be installed with a north-western facing aspect. If possible, they should be relocated to a more southern aspect.
