Managing the risk of flooding – infrastructure and partnerships

The Council works with other organisations and groups in managing the risk of flooding.

Thames regional flood and coastal committee

The Council is part of the Central North London Partnership of the Thames Regional Flood and Coastal Committee.

London Drainage Engineers Group (LoDEG)

Council officers are also members of the London Drainage Engineers Group (LoDEG) where ideas and experiences are shared across London

Flood risk management projects which the council is involved in

There are also other water or flood risk management projects led by other organisations that the Council is consulted on or is a stakeholder. These include:

Thames Tideway Tunnel project

Developed by Thames Water to construct a super sewer to intercept discharges of wastewater into the River Thames.

Thames Estuary 2100 (TE2100) plan

A plan to ensure the resilience of London to the risk of flooding from the tidal River Thames to the year 2100.

Counter Creek Flood Alleviation Scheme

Implemented in its reduced form by Thames Water to manage the risk of sewer flooding along the route of the Counters Creek Sewer.

The London Surface Water Strategic Group

The London Surface Water Strategic Group is a pan-London group representing all key organisations with responsibilities for flash flooding. The Council is represented both on the Strategic Group by Cllr Cem Kemahli, as well as on the supporting officer group by the Principal Flood and Water Management Officer.

The Greater London Authority

The Greater London Authority coordinates projects and initiatives across London. More information is available on the GLA website.
