Clean up after Carnival
Rubbish will be cleared from the main Carnival area each night during the event.
Once the rubbish is removed, street washing teams will begin cleaning the area.
Most streets are expected to be cleaned and returned to a high standard by Saturday 5 September.
Cleaning schedules may change depending on police advice on suitable times to start. Main roads and areas around transport hubs will be prioritised.
Residential basement and frontage cleaning services
We offer a free cleaning service for residential basements and frontages impacted by Carnival within the event area.
The free service is not available where Carnival-related activities, such as parties, have taken place in your basement or frontage.
We record properties where these activities take place during Carnival to help determine eligibility.
In your property does not qualify for the free service, the following charges apply:
- basic sweep and litter clearance: £31.50
- additional wash down: £78.75

Waste and recycling collections
There will be no rubbish or dry mixed recycling collections on:
- Monday 31 August
- Tuesday 1 September
Do not put out your rubbish or recycling on these days.
Normal collections will resume on Thursday 3 September.
Food waste
There will be no food waste collections on:
- Monday 31 August
- Tuesday 1 September
If your collection is due on either of these days, we'll collect it on Wednesday 2 September instead.
Garden waste
If you're a garden waste customer in the south of the borough, your next collection is Saturday 5 September instead of Wednesday 2 September.
Bulky waste collection service
There will be no Too Big For The Bin waste collections on:
- Monday 31 August
- Tuesday 1 September
Normal collections will resume on Wednesday 2 September.
Graffiti removal
After Carnival, our teams will carry out a graffiti removal programme across the area. You do not need to report graffiti caused during Carnival, as crews will work through affected streets over the following month.
We can remove graffiti at ground-floor level only. Graffiti above ground-floor level will need to be removed by the property owner.
Temporary toilets
Temporary toilets will be installed across the Carnival area from Wednesday 26 August. There will be parking suspensions in place to facilitate this.
We use compost toilets during Carnival because:
- they are better for the environment and do not need harsh chemical treatment
- they can remain in place throughout the event, reducing vehicle movements while roads are closed and helps us prioritise access for waste collection and street cleaning
- it removes the risk of leaks or over filling
