Video: Get back to nature with courses at HCGA

Transcript of this video

(00:01) [Music] We run lots of different courses for kids in Chelsea from gardening courses to making your own herbal beauty products.  Play Wild which is of course for parents and toddlers, pickles and preserves. So many different courses.  This year has been fantastic. It's been great working with so many different people and lots of new partners, as well this year so that's been fantastic from the north right down to the side of the borough.  And we have been running a natural remedies course with Hammer

(00:37) Smith Community Gardens and it is by far one of the most popular classes that we've run.  And I've just taken part in the time to get together program. This is a play on words because it supports where we learned aromatherapy skills. It's absolutely fantastic. The courses brought together a diverse group of like men and women and we've really learned skills like making our own body balm, body lotions, bath bombs.  It's been a magical course.  And yes I did the play Wild course as part of the adult learning and also with the baby with me and I really

(01:16) really recommend it for the parents and families.   It was a really amazing course you know. They it would be loved so much. It was so interactive and the kids learned a lot too. I would definitely recommend that people join our courses. Um it's open to any cancer Chelsea residents um age 19 plus. We've got some new course ideas for 2023 2024 um which is to kind of get people into green employment. So giving them the skills maybe teaching them on a course called Green Champions where we kind of deliver a course about what we do and how they

(01:58) can maybe get involved in what we do and then take that out into the communities they work in. Come and join us for 2023 2024. We'd love to have you with us and it's just a great opportunity to meet people in your local community and kind of make those links with people that have similar interests and let those kind of relationships blossom really. So yeah we look forward to seeing you [Music].

Meet the HCGA team

What three words describe your organisation?

  • friendly
  • knowledgeable
  • sustainable

What attracts people to your organisation?

Practical, hands-on sessions that focus on using natural ingredients and improving health and wellbeing. Learners also take home what they make as a gift for themselves or others.

Which is your most popular course and why?

Pickles and Preserves. Popular because people want to learn how to make their own preserves. With more people interested in chemical free, healthier products, our Thyme To Get Together course, where learners make natural beauty products is in regular high demand.

Success story

Lucy joined the Thyme To Get Together course in 2021 and has since completed five more, including Pickles & Preserves. She wanted to get out in her community and meet new people. As a retiree living on her own, our courses have helped her build an active social life and feel less isolated.
