About the employment and financial welfare team

Our employment and financial welfare team, in partnership with Octavia Abri delivers Money Wise, a three-day course to help residents manage their finances, save money and feel more confident with everyday maths.

Courses and training include:

  • saving money on shopping and energy bills
  • finding the best broadband and utility deals
  • everyday maths for budgeting and comparisons
  • tips to stretch your money further

Participants can earn up to £30 for attending, enjoy a free lunch, make new friends and receive an attendance certificate and Money Saving Tools factsheet.

Places are limited to 12 learners per course, so booking is essential. The course lasts for three days, sessions run from 10am to 2.15pm.

Success story

Evelyn joined the Money Wise course and it made a big difference to her attitude towards money and daily spending. Here’s what she said:

“It was absolutely brilliant, I learnt so much, from saving money on fuel and shopping, to finding the cheapest broadband.  I would highly recommend this course to everyone.”

Resident receiving a Money Wise course certificate

“The course was amazing for me. I am saving money from checking shopping deals and have been saving about £10 a week, but I sometimes use this to help my family. I have also been able to save enough to pay for a new passport. I am using lots more maths in my day-to-day life and I am always checking prices, like how much things will cost me per gram.

I feel less stressed using what I learnt on the course. I have been more frugal with my electricity usage and shopping and checking sites to find new and free deals for things like furniture. I don’t waste anything at all and would use all the food in my house, even using some as compost. I am prioritising my spending and decluttering and finding things I forgot I had, giving some of them to charity. I have even been able to help others to do their shopping, assisting them with some price comparisons.”
