Eligibility
You can apply if you're a tenant of a property with:
-
at least one bedroom, with no steps either inside or outside your home (studio flats are not accepted)
-
a ground floor or up to a fourth floor, if there is a lift
-
no one in the household who needs an accessible home
The need for accessible homes
Accessible homes are designed to meet the needs of people who have:
-
disabilities
-
mobility issues
-
other health requirements
There are far fewer accessible homes than people who need them. This is partly due to the national shortage of housing.
It also happens because some people live in accessible homes that do not have disabilities or mobility needs.
These homes could be better used by residents who rely on accessible features.
